Copenhagen's most beautiful spots for wedding photos
updated 2024
If you’re reading this, it means that YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH COPENHAGEN.
Maybe YOU’VE NEVER BEEN TO COPENHAGEN, or maybe you don’t know the city so well. And you don’t even have much time to wander the city in search of the PERFECT PHOTO BACKDROP.
And that’s ok.
I’ve been living in this city since 2012 and have been working as a CITY HALL elopement photographer for YEARS and years. I’ve got you.
There are many incredible locations around Copenhagen City Hall, only A FEW STEPS AWAY .
Copenhagen City Hall (Københavns Rådhus)
Let’s start with the most obvious location - Copenhagen City Hall.
Thanks to its lovely interior courtyard there is a wonderful SOFT LIGHT that comes through the glass ceiling, and with its decorations, and its impressive ARCHITECTURE, it’s just perfect for INDOOR PORTRAITS.
Beside the Wedding Hall, you'll find stairwells, balconies, and hallways with mosaics and statues.
There is also a little GARDEN, in case you want to have that champagne surrounded by flowers and trees.
Magstræde
Widely recognized as ONE OF THE MOST CHARMING SPOTS IN COPENHAGEN, this cobblestone street is certainly one of the best locations for portraits.
The only challenge you might face is that there are lots of tourists here attracted by the beauty of the COLORED FAÇADES.
You'll need a bit of patience, but you will end up with gorgeous and timeless photographs.
Christiansborg Slot
Denmark's political heart, home of the Danish Parliament, the Prime Minister's office, and the Supreme Court.
The courtyard is easily accessible from Marmorbroen (The Marble Bridge), an elegant rococo style bridge made with white marble that crosses Frederiksholms Kanal.
The bridge itself is magnificent, but it's the courtyard that will give you many opportunities for FAIRY TALE PORTRAITS; the white columns, the façade of the building and - if you're lucky - the horses galloping.
A Boat Tour
A great way to explore the city, especially if you or your guests have never visited Copenhagen before and would love to do SOME SIGHTSEEING as well.
During a one-hour ride, the boat will take you to the main attractions of the city, including Nyhavn and the Little Mermaid, the Opera House and Christianshavn.
The garden of the old Royal Library (Det Kongelige Bibliotek)
Located between Christiansborg Palace and the Royal Library, this secluded garden is a HIDDEN GEM known for being a very quiet place right in the middle of Copenhagen. It’s THE PLACE for flowers lovers.
There are plenty of opportunities for wedding photographs: benches under shadowy trees, blossoming flowers, ivy walls, and - best of all - not too many tourists.
Nyhavn
If I had to use only one location to represent Copenhagen, it would be Nyhavn.
This is the place that pops up when you think of Copenhagen and it’s THE MOST ICONIC LOCATION in the city center: townhouses on the water’s edge, cobblestone streets, wooden ships. Super romantic and timeless.
Just one thing. It’s a very crowded place, so be patient and if you can go there early in the morning.
Amalienborg (The Royal Palace)
Home of the Danish Royal family, this is a must-see for those who are looking for a TIMELESS and CLASSIC VIBE.
If you’re lucky you can also get a glimpse of the changing of the ROYAL GUARD.
Superkilen, Nørrebro
This is a location for couples who’d like to avoid the traditional and touristic routes for their wedding photos. Nørrebro is one of the most ETHNICALLY DIVERSE AREAS in Copenhagen, and this public park reflects that diversity.
All the elements in the square represent the 60 (ish) COMMUNITIES inhabiting the area, like the neon signs from Russia and the Moroccan fountain.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to get the metro or the bus from City Hall, but it’s definitely worth a visit.
Tivoli Gardens
Hello lovers of cotton candy, games, and magical vibes. If you get married at Copenhagen City Hall, you can find Tivoli Gardens only a few steps away.
The AMUSEMENT PARK is one of the oldest in the whole world and it’s a throwback to a different time, with its wooden roller coaster and its OLD-FASHIONED ATMOSPHERE.
There is an entrance fee to pay and the park is not opened all year around, so you might want to check the openings dates before heading there.
Explore Copenhagen
The old part of central Copenhagen is rich with locations for portraits. Just have a walk around, down a side street or alley, and you'll certainly find MANY PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES.
It could be a beautiful door, an ivy wall, a bridge. Copenhagen is rich in colours, textures, and old buildings with centuries of history – there's plenty of romance to be found.
